Fall 2007

MODL 1441/1442 Intensive Course

The course will provide instruction in all four language skills: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Students will learn how to engage in everyday tasks, such as

  • Discussing daily routines.
  • Asking for and giving simple directions.
  • Shopping.
  • Talking on the phone.
  • Reading and writing notes and letters.

Activities include both deductive and inductive lectures on grammatical constructions and cultural conventions as they relate to the language. In addition, intensive drills on sounds and tones, vocabulary, and sentence patterns in meaningful contexts will be used in order for the students to communicate appropriately and accurately in authentic contexts. Students will learn to write in Chinese and will be exposed to authentic materials written in Chinese.

This course is the prerequisite to MODL 2313/2314 Intensive Chinese Course, which will be offered in the Spring 2008 semester. For more information on this course, contact the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Texas at Arlington. Telephone: 817.272.3161.
