French at UTA

The French Program at The University of Texas at Arlington is dedicated to the study of the language, literature, and culture of France and other French-speaking countries. Students have the opportunity to achieve oral and written linguistic competence and to study the history, literature, film, arts, and philosophy of France and Francophone countries. Courses are designed to increase students' abilities of self-expression, enhance their cross-cultural understanding, and help them see their own culture from a fresh perspective.

Course offerings reflect a conscious effort to accommodate the needs of undergraduate and graduate students, both majors and non-majors, and to provide a comprehensive study of literature and culture, establishing a solid basis for potential further study in literature or history. Students interested in international relations, European history and literature, film studies, philosophy, post colonial studies, and teaching will find relevant courses within the offerings.
