The Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required of students applying to the Graduate School at UTA. (Under specific circumstances the GRE may be waived for those who received their B.A. from UTA. See GRE Waiver or Advanced Admission.)

Studying for the GRE is highly recommended, and students are advised to obtain practice books with actual previous tests. For more information, check the GRE Web site.

Please note: If you are currently on a provisionary admittance because of not having taken the GRE, you must take the GRE within the first semester. You will not be allowed to register for subsequent semesters if you have not taken the GRE. Also, the GRE scores must reach the Graduate School before the end of your first semester. It is your responsibility to take the GRE in mid-semester at the latest so that the Graduate School gets the officially reported scores before the official end of the semester.

FAQ: Taking the GRE

When can I take the GRE?

You can take the GRE test daily, Monday through Saturday.
Testing is available 3 weeks out of every month.

 

Do I have to make an appointment?

You should call at least 2 days ahead (or more) to schedule the test.

How much does it cost to take the GRE on computer?

Taking the GRE test on computer costs around $96.

Do I need to arrive at the time the GRE is scheduled to begin?

You should arrive 30 minutes before the test.

What do I need to bring to the GRE?

Please bring 2 forms of ID with photos and signatures.

 

How long does the GRE take?

Allow about 4 hours to take the test.

 

Do I have to wait to receive my test results?

Your test scores are available immediately, but you must ask.

 

When will the University receive my GRE scores?

Your test results are sent to the University in 10-15 days.
