Community Outreach
It is very important to us that we establish and maintain
positive relationships with our community. Consequently, we value contact
with representatives of the community, particularly local schools.
Workshops
Occasionally we host workshops open to teachers throughout the metroplex.
For instance, we hosted an ACTFL full-day workshop, "Integrating Internet
Resources into the Language Curriculum."
Hosting Visits from Schools
Almost e very year, the language classes at some area high schools spend
a day here on campus. The students visit language classes, hear presentations,
and get a general feel for college life. The last few years either Sharla
Martin or Professor Dolores Holder has managed the event. Here are a
couple of photos: |

Visiting Area Schools
We are situated in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, which
encompasses a number of smaller municipalities. We welcome the opportunity
to visit students from throughout the metroplex. For instance, in Southlake,
Durham Elementary and Intermediate School had an international week in
which each grade chose a country. The final event of the week was a visit
from professors in our department: Dr. Jinny Choi from Spanish spoke
to the second grade about Mexico and Dr. Kim Van Noort from French
spoke to the fifth grade about France.
Other Events and Contacts
Dr. Dolores Holder is our department contact for outreach and
recruitment. If you have any questions or would like to propose an event,
please contact her via e-mail (dholder@uta.edu)
or telephone (817.272.5534). |
