Dr. Sonja Stephenson Watson received her Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2005. Her areas of specialty are Contemporary Latin-American Literature, Hispanic Caribbean Literature, the Afro-Hispanic Historical Novel, and Afro-Hispanic Narrative. Dr. Watson has published articles in the College Language Association Journal and the Afro-Hispanic Review. Currently, she is working on her manuscript The Cultural Politics of Race in Afro-Panamanian Discourse which traces the development of literary blackness in Panama from the nineteenth-century to the present.
