Study Spanish in Cuernavaca, a charming colonial city with a population of 500,000 in the heart of Mexico (50 miles south of Mexico City) and known for its Eternal Spring. Live with a Mexican host family and completely immerse yourself in the language and culture of Mexico through constant contact with these and other native speakers. Small group classes are conducted in Spanish at the Spanish Language Institute, a professional language school devoted to the teaching of the Spanish language and the culture of Latin America.
The Department of Modern Languages at UTA is offering the following courses in Cuernavaca for five weeks during Summer Session II, from early July to the first week in August, 2009:
Spanish 4313 Hispanic Culture. Reading and studying of essays relating to various aspects of the culture of Spain and Spanish America other than Mexico.
Spanish 3312 Spanish American Culture and Civilization. This course is limited to the study of Mexican culture, with emphasis on modern and contemporary times.
In addition, two independent and conference courses (Spanish 2391 and Spanish 3391) will be offered. These two courses are primarily language courses, with a strong emphasis on conversational skills. Students may combine courses, such as 3312 and 3391, 2391 and 3391, or take two sections of 2391 or 3391. The maximum number of credit hours is six.
Specific information about requirements (departmental as well as those of the International Office) and costs of tuition, travel, room and board, etc., will be provided during the spring semester in orientation meetings.
